The first decision to be made when purchasing travel luggage is to determine how much you want to spend. If you expect to travel frequently, purchase luggage that is durable and can take a beating. If your honeymoon vacation will be a one-time travel event, don't break the bank purchasing designer luggage.

If you don't want to tie a red ribbon on the handle of your "black" suitcase, to differentiate it from everyone else's, consider purchasing suitcases that are unique in color or pattern.

The next decision is what type of travel luggage is right for you. Duffle bags, back packs and soft or hard sided suitcases can be purchased in a variety of fabrics with or without wheels.

Try and shop at several stores before making a decision. Give the suitcases you are considering a good workout. Don't be afraid to open and close them several times and give the wheels a good spin around the store.

Questions to consider when buying luggage:

How heavy is it? If luggage is heavy empty, just think how much it is going to weigh when filled.

Are the suitcases expandable? You want to make sure you'll have plenty of space for all the fun purchases you'll be making on your romantic honeymoon trip.

How about extra pockets or bags for toiletries, computers, passports, shoes and jewelry?

How to pack a suitcase: how easy is it to pack and unpack the bag? If you will be traveling to several locations during your honeymoon getaway, you don't want to waste time with a difficult to pack suitcase.

Examine the quality of workmanship in the seams, fabrics used, closures, wheels and hardware. Also find out what is and what is not included in the warranty.

*Pay special attention the quality of the zipper. A designer leather suitcase won't do you any good if you can't zip it shut.

If you will be purchasing carry-on baggage, make sure the dimensions meet airline specifications.
